Grammar 3: Subject Pronouns, Direct Object Pronouns, Indirect Object Pronouns

To avoid using the name of a person or thing many times we replace it with a pronoun.

Para evitar usar el nombre de una persona o cosa muchas veces lo remplazamos con un pronombre.



Subject Pronouns Pronombres Sujetos

I, you, he/she/it, we, you, they

Yo, tú, el/ella/ello, nosotros, vosotros, ellos


Harvey runs Marathons. Harvey trains every day, that’s why Harvey is a champion.

Harvey corre maratones. Harvey entrena todos los días, por eso Harvey es un campeón.


Let’s replace the second and third Harvey with He.

Vamos a reemplazar el segundo y tercer Harvey con El.


Harvey runs marathons. He trains every day, that’s why he is a champion.

Harvey corre maratones. El entrena todos los días, por eso el es un campeón.



Direct Object Pronouns

Me, you, him/her/it, us, you, them

Me, te, le/la/lo, nos, os, les/las


The ball hit me, you, him/her/it, us, you, them.

La pelota me, te, le/la/lo, nos, os, les/las pegó.


Take a potato. Peel the potato, boil the potato and eat the potato.

Coge una patata. Pela la patata, hierve la patata y come la patata.


Let’s replace the 2nd, 3rd and 4th potato with It.

Vamos a reemplazar la 2a, 3a y 4a patata con La.


Take a potato. Peel it, boil it and eat it.

Coge una patata. Pélala, hiérvela y cómela.



Indirect Object Pronoun

To + Me, you, him/her/it, us, you, them

A + Mi, ti, el/ella/ello, nosotros, vosotros, ellos/ellas


They gave the prize to me, you, him/her/it, us, you, them.

Me, te etc. dieron el premio a mi, ti, el/ella/ello, nosotros, vosotros, ellos/ellas.


When you see Jimmy, give this hat to Jimmy.

Cuando ves a Jimmy, dale este sombrero a Jimmy.


Let’s replace the 2nd Jimmy with to him.

Vamos a reemplazar el 2o Jimmy con a el.
